Up for sale, a 1975 Morris W-45 acoustic guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Made at the esteemed Terada factory in Japan, this expertly crafted vintage dreadnought acoustic has a rich tonal profile and cosmetic appointments befitting a proper D-45, yet with a unique three-piece back with a central third of highly figured chestnut. And with abalone top and rosette binding, hexagonal inlay on the ebony board, and a prominent V neck profile carve, this square shoulder dreadnought is a well-made example of Japanese craftsmanship. This W-45 has a full frequency response with a clear and cutting sound, with note clarity afforded by the combination of an ebony fretboard and Brazilian rosewood back and sides, paired with a solid spruce top. The guitar offers loads of bold projection, power, and low end kick, with a robust character that responds well to dynamic picking and strumming. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Morris W-45 is dialed in with comfortable action and fresh 12-53 phosphor bronze strings. The mahogany neck has a big, inviting V neck carve with the profile depth measuring. 883" deep at the 1st fret and 1.002" at the 9th.
With 14 frets clear of the body, the original slender fretwire shows virtually zero wear on the ebony fretboard, which also has hexagonal abalone inlays like its unrelated Martin-made cousin. The headstock features a simple Morris inlay on the rosewood headstock veneer and a set of Morris-branded heavy duty tuning machines with Schaller-style buttons and clean chrome plating. The carved rosewood bridge sits flush with the top with no lifting edges, and the original saddle has height for future adjustment. Cosmetic accents include the immaculate abalone binding and rosette, along with a single-ply deep red tortoise pickguard. The top is crack-free, and the guitar has been very sparingly played, with wear limited to a few small scratches and tiny dings in the finish. On the back of the body, an area of clouding can be seen in the finish and there is a small repaired crack at the binding on the lower bout back edge. Otherwise the guitar is in exceptional shape with a pristine neck profile. This Morris W-45 has the visual and tonal weight to best a wide range of square shoulder dreadnoughts, with incredible playability and the kind of attention to fit and finish consistent with vintage Japanese craftsmanship.
