Up for sale, a 1978 Aria Pro II Backaroo electric guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage T-style electric was produced at the Matsumoku factory in Japan and is rarely seen outside its country of origin. The guitar takes its cues from the Fender Telecaster, capturing all the hallmarks of Fender's early'70s output, with a transparent Blonde finish over an ash body paired with a one-piece maple neck.Further cosmetic touches including the aluminum barrel saddles, knurled knobs, and block logo, cementing the Fender aesthetic. Via the pair of original single coil pickups, the Backaroo offers ample twang and chime in the bridge position, balancing the attack and snappiness of maple with the midrange punch and sonic complexity of ash. The guitar weighs in at 8lbs 4oz and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with optimal action and 10-46 strings. The maple neck has a full, chunky C shape with good shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, fretting easily in every register with a substantial feel. The original fretwire shows uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-3, extending exclusively under the plain strings up to fret 10 with virtually zero further wear up the fretboard. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers, and the guitar has a responsive, ideally adjusted truss rod.
The nut measures 1 5/8 in width. The headstock features an Aria Pro II logo with'70s-style "Backaroo" block text as well as chrome tuners that turn very smoothly and work as they should.
All of the electronics function as intended, and all of the original hardware and plastic parts are present. The bridge features a trio of aluminum barrel saddles, and the "Made in Japan" text and serial number are present on the four-bolt neck plate. The guitar shows light patina on the hardware, and the original white three-ply pickguard is intact and notably clean. The gloss transparent Blonde finish has aged to a modestly yellowed shade of cream over the decades, and cosmetic wear is limited to light scuffing in the pick path, some tiny scattered nicks, finish chips and light scratches on the body as a whole, par for the course with any guitar that's been played a bit over the past 40+ years. The neck profile has a smooth gloss finish and is flawless aside from a small nick at the treble side fretboard edge at fret 2.
