1984 Squier by Fender Stratocaster'57 Vintage Reissue Sunburst JV Japan Fujigen

Up for sale, a 1984 Squier JV "Japanese Vintage" Series'57 vintage reissue Stratocaster in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Built at the Fujigen Gakki factory in Japan, these early JV Squiers are notable for being the first official Japanese-made Fender reissues, with this particular iteration closely mirroring 1957 specs. As such, this Strat features a gloss maple fretboard, stately and dark two-tone gloss Sunburst finish, and a trio of original alnico magnet single coil pickups.

Balancing well on a strap at 7lbs 6oz, this JV era Squier by Fender model has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a medium C shaped profile with good shoulder, measuring. 855 deep at the 1st fret and. The profile feels comfortable and fast, with Fender's traditional 1 5/8" nut width and a 7 1/4" radius. The original slender, vintage-style frets show decent grooves beneath the G and B strings on frets 1-7, with fainter wear beneath the plains until the octave.

Notes still ring out clearly in all registers, and the neck is notably straight with ideal relief. The headstock retains the signature large block Squier "Stratocaster" logo seen on these early reissues, paired with the smaller, Pre-CBS Strat headstock shape. On the body, all of the stock electronics work as they should, with a five-way blade selector switch, and typical three knob Strat control compliment. All solder joints are untouched, with unaltered body routes and the original 1984 pencil date on the neck heel, just like a golden era Fender guitar. The original JV prefix serial number on the four-bolt neck plate also dates to'84.

The chrome plated hardware shows uniform patina, particularly on the bridge base and saddles. The vibrato actuates very easily with a smooth and even response that allows for fairly deep dives and quick, subtle warbles, and the full-size trem block offers optimal sustain. Cosmetically, the gloss two-tone Sunburst finish shows honest playwear, with a great burst gradient and shading very representative of a genuine Pre-CBS example. There are some finish scratches and nicks on the guitar as a whole, with one decent chip on the bass side shoulder of the neck profile at the 12th fret.

This is a 100% original example from Fender Japan, from a time when the Squier and Fender brands were of comparable quality. A Fender-branded gigbag is included.
