Orig Vintage Rare 1959 Hand-painted Brunette #1 Ponytail Barbie Doll Nmint
EXTREMELY RARE HAND-PAINTED BRUNETTE #1 PONYTAIL BARBIE. Includes original TM box, swimsuit, open toed shoes, TM booklet, sunglasses, and reproduction flex leg insert. Up for sale is an EXTREMELY rare hand-painted brunette #1 Ponytail Barbie. And she is in near mint condition; an absolutely spectacular doll. Brunette Ponytail Barbies are more rare than blondes because they made blondes 3:1 over brunettes.
And hand-painted dolls were the very first made, until Mattel made a mold and started stenciling the faces. The hand-painted ones are my favorite and very hard to find. Her hair is in its original hair set, only the bottom rubber band was replaced because it was crumbling off. She still has original curl at the end of her ponytail!
Her face paint is all original except for a color wash on her lips. Her finger and toenail polish are all original and 100%. Her feet have no stains, and her tubes are both intact and perfect. She is on one of the earliest bodies with "Japan" in a small box on the bottom of her foot.
Her only flaw is slight staining on her torso which is completely hidden unless she is nude. And the bottom of her right leg is bent slightly outward at the ankle, into the position that the #1 stand holds the leg into. This happens from being on the #1 stand for decades. You can only see this when she is not on her stand and you put her legs side by side and are looking to see if her legs are perfectly straight; you can see that the right lower leg is slightly bowed out. It's not very noticeable and I could fix it for you if you like, but if you'll be putting her back onto a #1 stand, it will happen again eventually. This doll is definitely for the advanced collector. She will be the pride and joy of your collection.
