Vintage Matsumoku MIJ 1978 guitar with Neck-thru body design

Beautiful Vantage 700 VP Electric Guitar With Leatherette Gig Bag. 1978 Matsumoku Made Walnut and Maple Body, 3 piece Maple & Ash Neck-Thru Body design, 2 Humbuckers With Coil Split switches, Upgraded Wilkinson Tuners, Rosewood Fingerboard and inlaid sustain block.

This is one great playing & sounding Vintage MIJ Guitar, the best of Matsumoku skill construction from the golden age of Japanese manufacture! Set up with 10's for great tone.

This body has such wonderful resonance from the neck-thru body design & the pickups have that classic PAF crunch from the neck position PUP & sweet highs from the bridge. The coil tap is just great! Almost P-90 like with single coil punch.

A must have for the MIJ collector! Added some new pix clarifying Vantage use "Neck thru design" My response to a query is included. No I understand what you're saying, that why I took it to a luthier to examine. After scrutinizing it he determined that it is composed of different woods primarily maple & ash. The neck goes thru the body but that semi-moon shape above the bout is where the rest of the neck is glued to the top part of the neck. I know it seems weird but that is how Matsumoku described it as the neck itself is not SET in the body but rather the top of the neck (above that semi curve) is attached to the bottom part of the neck. He did determine that the indent at the bout is decorative & not a glued part of the neck.

So coupled with the fact that Vantage, per the serial number, described this 1978 version as a thru body neck guitar design, coupled with our examination I'd say it is technically accurate. As you can see the pix do show the main structure of the neck runs throughout the body but there is a tenon structure attaching the base of the neck material to the neck-thru wood. Sounds complicated but as simply as I can state it; a length of laminated maple and ash runs thru the body with cut out for the PUPs & a separate neck continuation is glued above the bout of the body.

Is it a true Neck thru design? But the resonance of the guitar is enhanced due to the neck structure being contiguous throughout the body.
