Up for sale, a 1966 Teisco Spectrum 5 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. One of the most coveted vintage Japanese guitars ever produced, this Spectrum 5 retains its original. Trio of Z coil pickups which are bright and percussive, offering plenty of snap and hollow twang. The five two-way switches allow for a wide variety of tonal choices (which inspired the name for the guitar), in addition to a sixth switch that toggles between Mono and Stereo operation.
This guitar weighs in at 8lbs 13oz, and acoustically the instrument has healthy projection with a bright, percussive bark. We've had this Teisco professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The neck has a slender C shape with. 785 deep at the 1st fret and graduating to. The 22 fret thick slab rosewood fretboard retains the original slender fretwire. The frets do show heavy wear. On frets 1-7, with virtually no wear further up the board and perfect fret crowns beyond fret 7. The guitar does play well in every register, and the tight-grained dark Brazilian rosewood slab fretboard features pearl T Teisco inlays. The scale length measures 24 3/4" and the nut is 1 5/8" in width.The original tuning machines oriented 4x2 on the headstock work as intended with embossed gear housings and chrome plated paddle buttons. All of the electronics work as they should, and the chrome hardware and plastic parts are notably clean, although the large "Spectrum 5" badge is no longer present.
The vibrato actuates easily, with a smooth, Bigsby-esque response, and the large chrome cover has only light surface patina, retaining the original mini Teisco badge. The deep German Carve on the wicked curves and contours of the Spectrum body shape really make this guitar stand out, and the coppery red metallic finish is remarkably well-kept. Op is extremely clean, with wear essentially relegated to the back, with a few dings, minor finish chips and light scuffing. The neck profile shows a t. Iny bit of finish chipping at the bass side of the zero fret at the fret tang, as well as a few scattered, shallow nicks along the profile which aren't distracting to the palm.
