Upper bout has a pretty good split that should be properly repaired as indicated in the photos. The bridge saddle is poorly sized and too thin for the bridge saddle a lot. The previous owner replaced the keys with some quality Grovers, but caused splits in the headstock due to improper drilling for the replacement tuner screws. Strap button hole is in heel, but the strap button is missing.Strap button on the end bout of the guitar is solid, but could be better installed. Lots of dings and player wear. Someone sanded the finish on the back of the neck. Two of the bridge pins are functional but different and lower quality than the other four. The strings are ancient and in danger of causing the next pandemic; likely containing their own unique ecosystem by now. Now that we got the bad out of the way - heres the good.
The guitar sounds and plays great, even with the crusty strings. Im pretty sure if I put new strings on this thing, fixed the buffoonery at the tuners, and fixed the bout that I would keep this guitar for my personal use.
It has the potential to be a really fine players instrument. This is an earlier Yairi from 1973 as indicated by the Emperors date code via the heel block serial number.
And as such it is a quality guitar with some fantastic construction and materials. The neck is solid, frets have tons of life left, there are no other serious cracks that I can find other than the bout and at the tuner screws; but it does have tons of wear and dings. Please ask if you have any questions or need any additional information. This one is going to be a tone bargain for someone out there!
