This expertly crafted Japanese guitar clearly takes its cues from its Gibson cousin (no relation), and while this Greco falls squarely under the umbrella of the famed "lawsuit" guitars in a general sense, no action was ever taken against Greco for these very faithful iterations. The guitar features a "sandwich" mahogany body, heavily figured three-piece birdseye maple top, and the original trio of Maxon-made U-1000 humbuckers which deliver a great spin on the classic PAF tone, boasting ample harmonic content, great punch, and an overall full and rich tonal character. There's plenty of bite and chime in the top end too. The guitar weighs 8lbs 9oz. An elegant and easy to play LP, this Greco has been professionally setup with low action, solid intonation and fresh 10-46 strings. The three-piece maple neck has a big round C profile shape, well within the baseball bat realm and measuring. 905" deep at the 1st fret and 1.020" at the 12th. The fretboard is a notably dark cut of rosewood and the stock fretwire has clean fret edge binding.

The frets are just shy of medium jumbo in width and crown, showing virtually no wear and playing cleanly up the neck. The original nut is a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal sustain and clarity measuring 1 11/16 wide. The headstock has multi-ply binding, the classic "open book" shape, and split diamond pearl inlay. The gold tuners turn very smoothly and sport metal tulip buttons that really look the part.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the pickups are well balanced with strong output. The harness features full size pots and the undersides of the pickups retain clean Maxon date stamps from 1979. Particularly uncommon for any Greco from this era, the carved maple top features tight, three-dimensional birdseye figuring in the maple. This figuring is on full display on the lower bout behind the bridge, framed by the warm Cherry Sunburst gloss. The gold hardware shows light surface patina, and finish wear is limited to a bit of scuffing in the pick path as well as a couple shallow dings and light finish scratches on the guitar as a whole. The neck profile is flawless. Extremely clean by any standard, let alone for a 40+ year old instrument, this Greco is a remarkably well-kept, professionally setup, and highly figured example.

A padded gigbag is included. Check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, " and please let us know if we can answer any questions!
