Banko WOVEN CLAY ENAMEL FLOWERS Ceramic Wall Pocket ANTIQUE RARE gifted 1909

This is not a cast piece. There is a maker's mark to the left of the hang hole. The piece was gifted and dated. This is a wall pocket made with a woven clay process. The back shows the beginning point where the strips are cut. The thin strips are woven to create the basket shape. The applied flowers cover and hide all of the strip ends. The design and construction is extraordinary. There is an open space between the basket and the interior pocket. The piece is 6 1/2" top to bottom and 4 1/2" at the widest point. The interior sleeve is 4 1/2 deep.
