Fender Japan Medium Scale Jazz Bass in Lake Placid Blue, these are very cool guitars, slim neck, big frets, pickups have been upgraded to Seymour Duncans. Started life at the Fuji-gen plant in 1993/1994. Medium scale 32 inch neck is basically lacking the first fret in length of a full scale bass. That medium bodies are 85% and are 94% the size of a full scale body?? See photo of long/medium/short scale superimposed. I listed the body material as Basswood but it very well could be Alder. Tuners work well but are so corroded I would replace them.

Bridge works well with the posts corroded---I adjusted the intonation and height of strings. Strings could use replacing but are playable. I'd clean (mineral oil) the fretboard when changing the strings.

The neck is smooth & straight with no dings, buzzes or dead spots. The body has many dings but only one little one down to the wood (see photo). There is a crack down the back (2 photos) but not thru to the wood. The mystery to me is the wiring of the Seymour Duncans. It seems to work best with all the knobs wide open but that leaves volume control at the amp only.

I'd have this checked out. A medium scale bass is too big for me so it's back to short scale.
