Four vintage Japanese faux tortoiseshell geisha hair accessories (AIB)

A collection of four vintage Japanese hair accessories comprising two combs and two hair pins. CONDITION: good vintage condition with expected wear. The kushi or hair combs are the classic half moon shape. The kogai or hair pins are made from amber and black resin, simulating tortoise shell. They are of the type which come apart in the middle and are not matching pieces with the combs. #1 comb with metal mounting measures 2 x 3 ins (5 x 7.5 cm). #2 faux tortoiseshell comb measures 2 x 3 ins (5 x 7.5 cm). #3 and #4 both kogai hair pins measure 6 ins (15 cm). Such ornaments represent a link with traditional forms in Japanese hair accessories which have been used for many hundreds of years before Western styles began to supplant traditional forms.
