Please view my other items on regular bases, as I'll add more treasures and you know well how it is - you never know, will you grab some bargains for yourself or something nice for someone you love and care about.. I'M DELIGHTED TO OFFER FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION THIS GORGEOUS RARE VERY LARGE ANTIQUE JAPANESE SATSUMA OR KUTANI? HAND PAINTED JAR OR VASE WITH THE LID.THIS ONE IS A REAL STATEMENT PIECE, VERY DECORATIVE AND NOTICEABLE ON DISPLAY. THE PAINTING JOB IS REMARKABLE, VERY FINE AND INTERESTING. I DID TRY TO FIND EXACT EXPLANATION WHAT EXACTLY IS DEPICTED AND I FAILED. AS JAPANESE MYTHOLOGY IS A VERY RICH BLEND OF LEGENDS, FOLKLORE AND TRADITIONS ABOUT JAPANESE GODS AND GODDESSES (KAMI) AND THERE ARE AROUND 8 MILLIONS OF THEM. THE FIGURINE ON THE TOP OF THE LID COULD BE HACHIMAN (god of war) OR IZANAGI (one of the main gods) OR ALL FOUR FIGURINES TOGETHER COULD BE FOUR SHITENNO (heavenly kings). As I'm a product of the Western civilisation, obviously the main body looks for me like our planet with representatives from different groups of society on shoulders of Kami and the lid represents heaven with the main God, clouds and dragons. THE VASE IS NOT IN PERFECT CONDITION (PLEASE READ THE REPORT OF CONDITION PROVIDED BELLOW) NEVERTHELESS STUNNING AND EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF ANTIQUE JAPANESE ART. TYPICALLY FOR THE EARLY PIECES NOT SIGNED. Height: 20 11/16 (52.5 cm). Width: 13 13/16 (35 cm) handle to handle. Weight: 6.9 kg before packing. I did check the vase very carefully all over with a magnifying glass so some of the issues are not visible on display. The gilding is slightly worn out. The lid itself has no damage apart from the main figurine on the top of it - the right hand is off and there's a small damaged area on the chest. It looks to me that the head has been broken off and then fixed back however I'm not sure. One of the dragon handles has part of the tail broken off and the chipped part is painted over with some kind of gold paint. On the bottom of the pot there's a chipped area and one of the figurines has very tiny chips on the leg part.
Please check very carefully all high resolution pictures provided. I do give my best possible report of condition and item based on my own knowledge and research, however pictures are the most important part of description, all of them have high resolution. Please keep in mind - my items are antique or vintage, some of them have been displayed or used for well more than a hundred years, so, some signs of wear and tear are inevitable.
