Glass float balls were used for herring fishing from the Meiji Era to the early Showa Era in Japan. The glass balls were made at a glass factory in Otaru, Hokkaido, which is famous for its canals. These have air bubbles characteristic of floating balls. Net is a little damaged and crumbling due to age.
The net appears to be made of old vinyl. The photos are shown with three different backgrounds.
