Vintage Geisha Maiko Japanese Kyodai Vanity Makeup Stand & Mirror Mid Showa Era. This lovely little Japanese kyodai vanity mirror appears to have been made in the mid Showa period, which is from 1026 to 1989, so probably from the early 50s, but may be a bit older than that. It is made of lacquered, Japanese'Kiri' Paulownia wood. It has one small drawer in the center that is flanked by two larger drawers, one on each side. The top surface has two areas of glass, textured on the underside. It has a lovely Japanese "Tsuru" flying crane design on the front of the left side drawer with vertical gold striping on all 3 drawers and metal handles. It will be disassembled for packing with the mirror removed. The lacquer has chipping in a few places from use over the years and the beveled mirror has significant fogging. It is structurally very sound with no cracks or other damage and is perfectly usable with a lovely vintage patina. There are on the top a few minor cracks in the lacquer which I have tried to show in one of the pictures, but they are only obvious if the light hits them right and in my opinion do not affect the beauty of the piece. Along the front edge of the top is a beige stripe which is reflected on the front of the front feet. The paper crane artwork is just beautiful and in perfect condition. In Japan, this would have been used on the floor but it can be used on a table top and would look fantastic with traditional cosmetic brushes & makeup items on it! Mirror Height: 19cm (7 1/2).
